So what have you given up for Lent then? Apart from pancakes. Mr Smith and the Apprentice somehow made me agree to abstain from alcohol for the prescribed forty days and forty nights. However, I have made an interesting, if not vital, discovery. If you start Lent from Shrove Tuesday, i.e. Ash Wednesday being Day One, and you count all the way to Good Friday, it is in fact 44 days of fasting in the wild. This is four more days than the original contract - therefore I can drink on Sundays, well some Sundays. Actually, the vicar told me this when pissed one Sunday in Lent - no he wasn't really, but he told me you get Sundays off so you can take communion. Aha, now it all makes sense.
